President Dilma Rousseff of Brazil has been confirmed by her political party, the PT ( Workers’ Party) as their candidate for re-election. The country has its next presidential election in October this year and the decision to back her again was made on 3rd May at the special party meeting at Anhembi in Sao Paolo.

Some observers speculate that the overwhelming endorsement in her favour was carefully orchestrated for a particular reason. It was to ‘scotch’ the allegedly growing ( but still minority) movement within the PT to boost the chances of former President Lula da Silva to return to front-line politics
